WOW Bible Study Class: Hebrews' Study
Bible study begins at 9:00 am.
Lesson Title: "Secured With Confidence"
Our lesson for October 5 is Session 5, page 51 in your Explore the Bible Personal Study Guide. Scripture focus is: Hebrews 4:14 - 5:6
In Shepherd's notes: pages 33 - 39.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 4:16 "Let us approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
Review from last weeks' lesson:
Hebrews 4:3-8
In these verses the writer mentioned three kinds of rest:
** Sabbath Rest: God's resting from His work on the seventh day of Creation.
** Canaan Rest: The rest of God's people in Canaan: Over a million adults were "saved" out of Egypt. Only two "inherited" the land. Plus those under 20 years of age.
** Eternal Rest: "Jesus is the leader who opens the way for this rest. On the human side, faith is the condition that enables persons to enter this rest. This rest is both present and future. Believers begin to experience this rest now and will experience this eternal rest in its fullness in the world to come." (Shepherd's notes page 31)
SECOND WARNING: The danger of Disobedience
Will you have an inheritance? Will you allow Satan to deceive you?
Hebrews 3:12-13 "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."
"Today": "Does this mean that any of us could fall away? Are we vulnerable? Tomorrow is the day when idle men work, and fools repent. Tomorrow is Satan's to-day; he cares not what good resolutions you form, if only you schedule them for tomorrow. "Today" - means right now: while you still have opportunity..." (Chuck Missler - Notes on Hebrews, page 83)
Our challenge is to defeat Satan's evil tactics when he attempts to rob us of our inheritance and guides us to focus on tomorrow. We live in the present and are committed to service for our Lord Jesus Christ "Today". Read again our memory verse: Hebrews 4:16. When we need help we can go with confidence to God's throne of grace and receive mercy and find grace!!!
See you Sunday.
