Quote from William Barclay, "The Letter to the Hebrews"
"What does the writer to the Hebrews mean by this maturity? He means two things, (1) He means something which has got to do with the mind. He means that as a man gets older he should more and more have thought out for himself. He should, for instance, be able to say better who he believes Jesus to be. He should have a deeper grasp, not only of the facts, but also of the significances of the Christian faith. (2) He means something that had got to do with life. As a man grows older there should be more and more of the reflection of Christ upon him. All the time he should be ridding himself of old faults and getting to himself new virtues. Life, as it grows older, should be growing more lovely and more strong and more fine. Daily a new serenity and a new nobility should be breaking upon life."
What does the Bible teach us about salvation in Jesus? Read the following scriptures: John 10:27-29; Romans 8:1, 38-39; Ephesians 1:13-14; Philippians 1:6; I Peter 1:5.
We are not to be stagnant in our daily walk with Jesus. We are walking toward His Kingdom to receive our inheritance and live with him forever. We have "Today" to prepare to meet Him. In Paul's writing he reminds us that we are in race: Hebrews 12:1b-2 "Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Read also other references: Philippians 3:13-14; I Corinthians 9:24.
Let us finish the race:
